Pharmacy niche

Has anyone had any experience recruiting and placing pharmacists? I'm researching that job market as a prospect niche and would love some input from recruiters who have experience in the field.

This I have noticed Ed. Currently I am marketing my services to hospitals. I am willing to place pharmacists, administrators, etc. I have found that it is hard to get to the right people in this industry and just about every place I've spoken with already has long term contracts with a recruiting firm. Thank god I'm patient and am working in another niche right now so I don't starve.

I have recruited and placed pharmacists in the pharmaceutical/drug safety industry but it is pretty tough pulling them from retail to hospital or pharma as the compensation difference is quite large.

Welcome Jae. I too have been researching this niche. I have yet to cultivate a job order but I have found that there are candidates a plenty. Susan is a great resource of knowledge as you can see she helped line out a great deal of base information for me. Best of luck in your ventures.

Hello all! I'm researching healthcare as a niche market and would greatly appreciate any tips, insight, suggestions or input on working in this industry. I've been looking into specifically the therapist/technologist niche and executive administration. Any guidance you may have is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Flat fee for retail chains average 5,000 - 10,000 they will pay more for very hard to fill positions. Hospitals, 20% can be done. Long Term Care chains, can vary from average flat fee 10,000 to 20% of the order. I've yet to see a mail order pharmacy pay fees.

Susan thank you so much for your insight. I have definately noticed the resistance to change in their field. One more question I forgot to ask is what is the norm for billing? Is it a flat fee kind of niche or is there a norm % the hiring agents are accustomed to? I would hate to drop some percentage that is normal in other fields but unheard of within this one.

Last comment, you'll make more $ recruiting for Hospitals than the chain or retail pharmacies : )

One of the toughest theories behind recruiting pharmacists is you have to remember, they are scientists, they are a pharmacist and they like to do the same thing day in and day out. They don't like "changes". Getting them to move to new positions is one of the hardest parts of recruiting these specialists you can find. Most of the "mail order" pharmacy positions don't use third party recruiters. In fact, if you get talking to a pharmacist a good percentage will ask you if you have any "mail order" positions. Nuclear Pharmacists are highly specialized and make a great salary. They also secure better schedules than some of the other positions out there. Hospital Pharmacists are in there role because they don't have to deal with "external" customers, you know grandma who thinks she dropped of her RX and wants to know why it's not ready when she never dropped it off. You have big chain pharmacists, Walmart, SamsClub, and then you have the large chain pharmacies. When I recruited pharmacists, it wasn't hard to get a long term night pharmacist to consider a day position in another city, if they were willing to move (however there is that "change" piece they are resistant to. There are also long term care facility Pharmacies. Those companies get pharmacists by creating websites were they can search for "pharmacy" jobs and then their recruiters can cold call them ( building the database). If you target hospitals you'll need to reach the Directors of Pharmacy and then they will likely patch you through to the CEO, C level calls to secure the contract.
